The Mobility Fund Phase II will provide up to $500 million per year in ongoing support to ensure universal availability of mobile broadband services. Phase II will expand and sustain mobile voice and broadband services in communities in which service would be unavailable absent federal support. The Mobility Fund will include ongoing support for Tribal areas of up to $100 million per year as part of the $500 million total budget.
The FNPRM will determine the structure and operational details for the ongoing Mobility Fund, the proper distribution methodology, eligible geographic areas and providers, and public interest obligations. Details will be finalized in 2012 and will be implemented in 2013.
