Biography of Peter J. Kragel, M.D.

Mr. Peter J. Kragel, M.D., is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Planning and Program Development in the Health Sciences Division and Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University (ECU) in Greenville, North Carolina.

Dr. Kragel joined the Brody School of Medicine as Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in July 1998. At the time, he also was named Chief of Pathology at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. In addition to his duties in the Department of Pathology and in strategic planning for the Health Sciences Division, Doctor Kragel supervises ECU's Center for Health Sciences Communications and the Telemedicine Center.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Kragel was the Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Truman Medical Center/University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, and staff pathologist at the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Kragel is the author or co-author of numerous journal articles and is involved with many professional societies including the Southern Medical Association and the American Telemedicine Association.

Mr. Kragel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and an M.D. degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.
